In late 2005 I moved to a new town to attend a different college. During the move I thought that the Pheonix would be heavy enough to hold itself on the workbench as the Airstream was being towed down the road. I was wrong. At some point (I think it was during an attempt to dodge a squirel) the machine slid off the workbench and fell to the floor. Pretty much the entire gantry carriage was destroyed. |

When rebuilding the Pheonix CNC machine, I decided that I didn't want to just rebuild it to the way it was but to modify it to give it more capability. I was inspired by Dave Kush's machine over at BuildYourIdea.com that has twin Z axis that allows the ability to use it as a hot-wire foam cutter once the Y-axis is removed. I decided to copy this approach. |
